Gamers have had plenty of titles in recent years that were promoted as “gaming-changing releases,” only to not be that way at all. Then, other titles would rise up to ACTUALLY be great games, showing that some developers need to “get out of their own way” and just make something fun.
Bethesda is arguably one such company, as it spent years developing Starfield, promoting it as its “next big IP,” and the game’s release was anything but momentous. Sure, critics loved it overall, but actual gamers ripped it to shreds, and between that and its first failed DLC release, it’s hard to know what’s “truly next” for the game, and whether it’ll matter.
Enter a report from Jez Corden of Windows Central, where she states that there was a “behind closed doors” event teasing what was next for Starfield, including getting some huge upgrades that fans have been asking for since launch, like having fewer load screens during space flight.
Amidst that report, though, was a note that the game could arrive on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026 alongside the already confirmed PS5 version. That’s another blow to the Xbox brand, which has already lost numerous exclusives to Sony and Nintendo.
Whether the game will actually do well on Nintendo Switch 2, in terms of sales, is unclear, as we still don’t know how well it sold on Xbox, due to the title being on Game Pass when it launched. Corden made it clear that these things haven’t been fully confirmed yet, so take them with a “grain of salt.”
