Slime Rancher 2 Finally Launches This September, Physical Editions Coming in 2026

It’s finally happening! Slime Rancher 2 is getting its full release after spending nearly three years in early access, as Monomi Park has selected September 23, 2025, as the official launch date for version 1.0. You’ll be able to pick it up digitally on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store).

Check out the announcement trailer below and try not to giggle due to all the cuteness.

The full release of Slime Rancher 2 is bringing a ton of new content. We’re getting Quantum Drones, which are a twist on the classic helper bots, as they can now explore Rainbow Island and grab resources for you. There’s also a batch of new blueprints, gadgets, and upgrades to play with, and even more of the Labyrinth to explore as the story finally hits its big finale. This is shaping up to be the most complete version of Slime Rancher 2 yet, and honestly, it sounds like the wait was worth it.

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the franchise, Monomi Park is also doing something fans have been asking about for years: physical editions. Partnering with iam8bit, they’re dropping boxed versions of Slime Rancher 2 on January 14, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. These aren’t your typical plain boxes either. The retail version comes with a fold-out poster featuring custom art by legendary artist Yusuke Naora (Final Fantasy VII, X, and XV).

There’s also an iam8bit Exclusive Edition that includes that same physical copy, plus an exclusive sleeve, six adorable slime stickers, and the same gorgeous poster. Both versions are $34.99 and are available for preorder over at slimerancher2.iam8bit.com and other retailers. Just a friendly FYI, the Exclusive Edition is only up for preorder through August 26, and every physical copy comes with a free code for the digital soundtrack.

If you haven’t checked in since the early access launch in 2022, the game has come a long way. There’ve been major updates adding new zones like Powderfall Bluffs and the massive Grey Labyrinth, new slimes, dynamic weather effects, and even more tools for exploring and customizing your ranch. And with the full release, Monomi Park is rounding everything out with even more content to sink your teeth into.

Here’s What’s New in Slime Rancher 2 Version 1.0

  • Rainbow Island Just Got Bigger
Beatrix LeBeau returns to explore an island packed with ancient tech, wild biomes, and new slimes like the Sloomber and Twin Slime.
  • The Story Gets Real
The stakes are way higher this time. Not only is Rainbow Island at risk, but the entire Far, Far Range is in danger. Expect some twists and turns as you work to uncover the truth.
  • Customize Your Setup
Make your ranch your own by upgrading your gear, building new gadgets, and decorating the Conservatory with all the flair you want.
  • Explore the Grey Labyrinth
This area is next-level—brand-new puzzles, weird sub-biomes, and even reality-warping effects. Definitely not the usual slime wrangling routine.
  • Even More Secrets to Discover
Hidden treasure pods, unlockable gadgets, and plenty of surprises are waiting around every corner.
  • A Full Weather System
It’s not always sunshine and smiles—now you’ve got to deal with thunderstorms, tornadoes, and other wild weather events that actually affect the world and your slimes.

If you’ve been holding off on Slime Rancher 2 until it was “finished,” your time is almost here. And if you’ve already been ranching since early access, there’s still plenty to look forward to when the game fully launches this September.

We’ll definitely be checking it out when it drops, so keep an eye out for our hands-on impressions when the time comes.
