Silent Hill is ready to walk 500 miles (and more). Last year, Silent Hill f took the series outside of the titular town in the US to a new location in Japan. And now, the horror series goes back on the road. Silent Hill: Townfall will take place in Scotland. During yesterday’s Sony State of Play, Konami revealed a trailer that gives a look at the isolated town of St. Amelia.
Players enter this locale as Simon Ordell. Simon appears to wake up in the waters around the town. Having spent a good deal of time in Scotland last year, I can confirm that’s how you get there. But in all seriousness, St. Amelia appears to be a take on St. Monans, a fishing village on Scotland’s east coast. It looks fairly similar to St. Amelia, but thankfully with fewer shambling abominations.
And that’s not the only connection to Caledonia. Silent Hill: Townfall is developed by Screen Burn, a studio based in Glasgow. Konami and Annapurna Interactive will co-publish the psychological horror game. Screen Burn previously developed the criminally underrated sci-fi horror game Stories Untold.
Silent Hill: Townfall will differentiate itself from previous entries in the Silent Hill series while building on what came before. Notably, players will experience the entire game in first-person. This entry introduces the CRTV device, a portable television that players will use to tune into signals.
Nevertheless, the title promises the core Silent Hill gameplay loop of narrative-driven puzzles and tense combat. Simon will have access to limited weapons and tools as he traverses St. Amelia. Hopefully one of those includes a high-quality mac.
Silent Hill: Townfall will arrive for PlayStation 5 and PC. The release date will be revealed at a later date. In the meantime, you may wishlist the horror game on Steam.
