Capcom has revealed that the latest chapter in the Resident Evil story, Resident Evil 9: Requiem will be arriving sooner than expected. While Ethan seems to be taking a much-needed permanent vacation since his run-in with the origins of Umbrella back in Europe (Resident Evil Village), the story focuses on Grace Ashcroft.
Those not completely familiar with the series may think that Grace is a completely new character, but instead, Grace is the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from the 128-bit Resident Evil: Outbreak title. From the look of things, we’re going back to one of the first destinations of the original trilogy – Raccoon City. Or what’s left of it post the events of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, due to the nuclear fallout, thanks to the bomb that was dropped on it at the end of the game. A bomb that was supposed to eradicate the T-virus, but we all know it was really a cover-up.
Now, so many years later, Grace has become an FBI Agent and has been charged with investigating the remains of The Remnant Hotel. Flashbacks aplenty as well as some scenes that can give us a glimpse of one of the major villains of this story. Grace’s mother had died 8 years ago before the current events. Is it really time to open the wound?
Resident Evil, as a series, has taken many forms since its 1996 debut. The last two entries drastically changed the landscape from 3rd to a first-person perspective to solidify the psychological atmosphere, coupled with its sci-fi feel. The return to more of a horror-based game felt like a much-needed change, starting with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Biohazard was the first title to combine both Japanese and English series names together.
With the way the series is progressing, this might be the case for this entry, too. Regardless of where this entry is headed, the audience at Summer Games Fest was already excited to see this franchise continue. The series itself will be celebrating its 30th anniversary next year. Speaking of Village, Lady Dimitrescu’s English voiceover, Maggie Robertson, reminded us of this at various points of both Summer Games Fest, also. Surprisingly, she did it in a room with the lights on.
Resident Evil 9: Requiem will be available on Xbox X | S, PlayStation 5, and Steam on February 27, 2026
