While attending Summer Game Fest 2025, we had the opportunity to experience a game I wasn’t expecting: King of Meat. This game is published by Amazon Games and developed by Glowmade. You play as a custom character who joins a competition called King of Meat. While at this competition, you join three other competitors to survive obstacles, killer skeletons, and other creatures to reach the pedestal at the end of the trial.
At the playtest at Summer Game Fest, we were able to play with three other people for our first go at the game, and we all survived. After a bit of internet shenanigans, we lost one player but managed to get in a few more sessions with a three-player obstacle course. We decided to try our hand at the Spicy level. The difficulty of these courses comes in three levels: Mild, Medium, and Spicy. Even though some stages required four players, we were able to use some ingenuity to add weight to the fourth slot on doors and traps using boxes and potions we found throughout the course. This is a game that rewards creativity.
What happens in these obstacle courses, you may ask? Puzzles can include running through enemies to get to a door, pressure plate puzzles, coliseum rooms that force you to defeat a large chunk of enemies, or even bosses that need to be defeated to advance to the next room.
The best thing that will push this game further is the ability to construct your own courses. These are simple to create. There are rooms and room types. You can mix and match, but they must intersect in ways that connect doors to openings. They also have to be a certain size. The tool is easy to understand and offers plenty of ways to customize rooms to your heart’s content.
The thing that will push this game to its heights is its community. This game has a lot of potential, and it’s a blast with a full party. If you struggle to find players or if there isn’t enough community-created content, it may not be a game you want to play. Luckily, the developers will be adding their own content to the game, and there will be more cosmetics you can earn from its very easy-to-earn free battle pass. I may not like battle passes, but a free one that gives you worthwhile things is commendable. If you don’t want to wait on the battle pass, there are shops you can find in the lobby that sell cosmetics, special moves, and weapons.
Overall, I enjoyed the time we spent with King of Meat. I think it has a lot of potential to thrive, and I desperately want this game to gain a big following. The gameplay is fun, the obstacle courses are chaotic and make for great Discord shenanigans, and progressing in the game is a joy. I highly recommend everyone keep their attention on this game.
King of Meat will be released in 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
