Scott Pilgrim EX Gets Gameplay and Physical Editions During SDCC 2025

With San Diego Comic-Con 2025 still dropping the hits, there was a bit of Canadian chaos being let loose as Scott Pilgrim EX made its debut during a packed panel hosted by franchise creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, developer Tribute Games, and Limited Run Games, with some help from Universal Products & Experiences. The session gave fans their first look at gameplay from the upcoming beat’em-up, which serves as a brand-new chapter in Scott’s never-ending fight for love, music, and self-respect.

The panel wasn’t just a teaser fest. It was a celebration. Moderator Griffin Newman, of Blank Check Podcast fame, kept the energy flowing as O’Malley was joined by Tribute Games‘ Jean-François Major and Yannick Belzil, Limited Run Games CEO Josh Fairhurst, and Universal’s John Melchior. Together, they walked attendees through the creative vision behind Scott Pilgrim EX, emphasizing that this isn’t a remake or remaster of the first game.

Just when the crowd thought it couldn’t get any better, Anamanaguchi’s Peter Berkman hit the stage for a surprise appearance. The legendary chiptune rock band, known for scoring the original Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game, is back to create the soundtrack for Scott Pilgrim EX. Berkman even dropped a new track live, much to the crowd’s delight.

As for the gameplay itself, the teaser showed Scott and Ramona setting out across a pixel-art Toronto after Sex Bob-Omb’s instruments are mysteriously stolen. From city streets to unexpected beach brawls (yes, Toronto has beaches apparently), players will bash their way through gangs and familiar foes. The teaser even hints at some possible time travel elements, so expect the unexpected.

Check out the gameplay for yourself below.

While we still don’t have a release date, it has been confirmed that the game will see a release in early 2026 for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. At least digitally.

For those who aren’t fans of digital games, Limited Run Games has confirmed that Scott Pilgrim EX will receive several physical editions, with pre-orders now available on the Limited Run Games website through September 21, 2025.
