Being able to trust a video game development team, regardless of whether they’re a developer or publisher, is crucial in getting gamers to want to purchase what that group is making. When Sandfall Interactive first announced Clair Obscur Expedition 33, no one really knew that this would be the game that would set 2025 on fire. Yet, that is what happened. It sold millions, got critical and fan praise, basically swept The Game Awards and other such shows, and now, the dev team are celebrities, with fans eager to find out what they’ll do next.
However, as longtime gamers know, sometimes, it’s hard to “recapture the magic,” especially when many will expect the “same level of quality” as before. Sandfall Interactive was interviewed by EDGE Magazine, and as GamesRadar revealed, the heads of the company aren’t worried about what’s coming. For example, chief operating officer and production director François Meurisse noted:
“We’ll have time to get really focused into the next game. We have some great ideas we’re so excited to explore, and we don’t start from the same point. The team already has five more years of experience. So maybe we can do some great stuff.”
Experience does help in matters like this, and Lead Writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen added this key statement:
“Creatively, we’ve always let our North Star be our own personal taste in terms of what we think is cool, what it is we enjoy and want to see. I’ve seen too many TV shows and books be swayed trying to please a lot of people, and in the process you end up losing the heart of what’s there. So [we] feel like we need to trust our instincts and continue to trust the vision behind the studio.”
Given what the team did in its first official outing, their “North Star” pointed them right and true. So, who are we to stop them from following it a second time and seeing what comes next?
