They say you only have one chance to make a good first impression, and for Sandfall Interactive, they made arguably one of the best first impressions ever via Clair Obscur Expedition 33. The title was their literal first game ever, born from a team that loved RPGs and wanted to craft something truly special, instead of sticking with certain publishers (like Ubisoft…) and just making the same thing repeatedly. The result was a title that not only stood out, but is a Game of the Year contender, and just recently, it was announced that it’s sold over 5 million copies. Not bad for a first game, huh?
The team has already announced that there will be an update for the game soon, but many want to know what Sandfall Interactive will make next. In a chat with PCGamesN, CEO and creative director Guillaume Broche discussed that very thing and was very clear on what the future holds:
“Expedition 33 is just one of the stories that we want to tell in the Clair Obscur universe.”
He didn’t stop there, though. Broche admitted the team is planning out its next game, and that the core team won’t grow too big in the future:
“We are starting to think and work on the next real game, which is super exciting, and we have a lot of very good ideas. We don’t plan to grow the studio too much; we want to remain very small and agile with a strong creative vision and a game that feels very unique and artsy. We want to keep that: that’s our DNA, and that’s how we work.
We want to make stories like an arthouse, making crazy projects because we want to make them, and that’s the philosophy we want to stick by.”
It’s a bold statement, but given what they’ve done already, they’ve earned the right to do things their own way.
