If you didn’t know, the Pokemon World Championships have been going on in California this weekend, and there have been some big announcements from the event. We just covered how Pokemon Legends Z-A will have special battle royale-style online multiplayer matches, and now, we know something about the other upcoming title, Pokemon Champions. The game is a battle-focused title coming to the Switch and mobile devices next year, and now, we know that the game will have a special place in next year’s World Championships:
Pokémon Company President Ishihara announced Pokémon Champions will be the official software for the gaming division at the World Championships moving forward. Pokémon Champions has Mega Evolutions and that will be legal next year at the next competition.

It makes sense that the game would have such a role in the championships going forward. As announced at the Pokémon Presents, the game will allow you to import past Pokémon from certain services for you to use in battles against others. That means that trainers can build up their teams and have them more easily available for the championship event.
Having Pokemon Champions be the “official software” for the event highlights how much faith The Pokemon Company has in the title, even though it hasn’t been released yet. It makes you wonder what else it might have in store for gamers that we don’t know about.
