Pocket Bravery

After making waves on the Steam front, Statera Studios’ Pocket Bravery will be hitting the console tip next month. This is years after its Evo 2022 debut.

12 diverse warriors will be taking on each other on the consoles that it will be on with all the Portugese words you can handle. The game also adds Sho Kamui, from the Breakers series, as a guest character. The game is already on Year 2 of their DLC campaign with 4 characters coming out per season.  Combo Factory, pixel art, and rollback netcode is here. The game has received alot of nominations for its’ take on the 2D pixel fighting game subgenre:

  • Brazil Game Awards: Brazilian Game  Game of the year 2023
  • The Game Awards Best Fighting Game Nominee 2023
  • Dice Fighting Game of Nominee 2023
  • Hardcore Gamer Best of 2023 Best Fighting Game of the Year Nominee

Inspired by handheld fighting games and console based such as the Neo Geo Pocket Collection’s King of Fighters and Capcom’s Pocket Fighter(Super Gem Fighter), Pocket Bravery will have different modes to shake a hitbox stick at such as:

  • Story Mode
  • “Complete” Arcade Mode
  • Offline Versus Mode
  • Combo Factory
  • Trials Mode
  • Online Ranked

System wise, Pocket Bravery some cool mechanics similar to modern fighters with double guages. For instance, the Elemental gauge allows advance blocking, a final Super move, move cancels, and EX specials. Each character has one that’s attached to them, allowing them to tap into this special power and deliver deadly moves. There’s loads to utilize for the 4 button setup.
