One of the “side effects” of Harry Potter blowing up was that there were many other attempts to make “young fantasy” novels become big-budget Hollywood films. One such attempt was with the Percy Jackson line of books. The first movie was solid enough, but its follow-up failed to impress (for various reasons), and so it went away. Then, it got another chance via Disney+, and I thought it was really good, as did many others. As such, we’re now only about a month away from Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 on the platform.
The second season will build off what Season 1 did, while also sticking to the lore of the second book, the “Sea of Monsters.” This time around, Percy is slowly becoming more adept as a demigod, but still has dreams about the future, including one where Grover, his best friend, is taken. His other friend, Annabeth, warns of dreams of their dear camp coming under attack. Thus, they must sail to that sea of monsters and continue to stop the machinations of the titan Kronos. Here’s the synopsis for the season:
“After Camp Half-Blood’s protective border is breached, Percy Jackson embarks on an epic odyssey into the Sea of Monsters in search of his best friend Grover and the one thing that may save the camp — the legendary Golden Fleece. With help from Annabeth, Clarisse and his newfound cyclops half-brother Tyson, Percy’s survival becomes essential to stopping Luke (Charlie Bushnell), the Titan Kronos, and their impending plan to bring down Camp Half-Blood — and ultimately, Olympus.”
