Octopath Traveler Director Wants Everyone To Play Breath of the Wild

By Todd BlackDecember 20, 2025
The Legend of Zelda Mobile Game - The Outerhaven Breath of the Wild 2, Final Fantasy, Octopath Traveler

One thing that gets lost in all the “hubbub” of making video games is that the creators who develop them…love to play video games, too. We’ve heard plenty of talk recently about how developers like Sandfall Interactive paid homage to all the RPGs they loved when making their “Game of the Year” title, and they’re not alone in giving praise to such games. For example, the director of Octopath Traveler 0, Yasuhiro Kidera, stated that Breath of the Wild wasn’t just an incredible game, but one that he felt everyone should play.

This came out during a special Square Enix video about “The Games That Made Us,” and he said:

“For me, it’s kind of similar, thinking of how the atmosphere was really well done. The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild shares some aspects with Tsushima in that regard. The way the atmosphere is built, the BGM, the environmental sounds, and how they all blend together so naturally. Even the battles are designed so that the battle music doesn’t start until the fight actually begins. It’s very well crafted. The immersion is incredible and the range of things you can do in the game is huge.”

High praise indeed. The Legend of Zelda has always been held in high regard, but it was this title that truly helped “elevate” the series in a new way, and the Octopath Traveler 0 director even said at the end:

“I’d love to make a game like that someday.”

I hope he gets his wish!
