It’s fair to say that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be a focal point of gaming news for pretty much the rest of the year. We still don’t know when the next Nintendo Direct is, we’re slowly getting game release dates, and, of course, people want to know how well the console is selling all over the world. For that last one, we do have an update via the July NPD data. Mat Piscatella dropped the latest info about the Switch 2’s sales numbers, and the prognosis is very good. In fact, it’s on pace to be doing really well before the holiday season even hits:
Hardware – Nintendo Switch 2 has now surpassed 2 million units sold in the US life-to-date. It is currently 75% ahead of the unit sales pace set by the original Nintendo Switch.

That’s a big deal for multiple reasons. First, it shows that the Nintendo Switch 2 continues to sell well, and that it’s tracking far ahead of what the OG Switch did in the same timeframe. That’s not to say it’ll “inevitably surpass its predecessor,” but it’s a good trend to be on. One small note to note, though, is that the sales figures for this analysis ended on August 2nd. So, naturally, the console has sold many more units since that point.
As for the gaming side of things, Donkey Kong Bananza (read my review!) also did well in the US during the July period:
Content – Donkey Kong Bananza’s physical sales were high enough to place it 3rd on July’s best-selling games chart while ranking 20th for 2025 year-to-date. It was also the best-selling game of July on Nintendo platforms.

It should be noted that digital sales weren’t counted for this figure, so the sales numbers just in the US are definitely higher. The game is likely already over the million-seller mark, which also adds to the Switch 2’s success.
We’ll keep an eye on this going forward and report new figures when we get them!
