Many, including myself, are waiting eagerly for the official breakdown of how the Nintendo Switch 2 has done in its first few days/first week after launching last Thursday. Officially, we’ve heard nothing from Nintendo on the matter. Instead, we’ve heard various accounts from fans and gamers who went to various stores to get the system, and either had a lot of luck…or no luck at all. However, certain sources are pointing to international numbers in key countries to showcase how well the console is doing. If these figures hold, the Switch 2 is indeed on its way to a record-breaking launch.
Let’s start with France. Yesterday, it was reported that the country had sold about 200K in its first few days of arrival. However, that’s been revised to 169k. Despite that small downturn, it’s still the biggest console launch in the country’s history:
Nintendo Switch 2 sold 169.000 units in France• Fastest selling console in the country• Surpassing the previous record by 58%• Mario Kart World sold over 160.000 units (inc. bundle), biggest launch of the year

Next, we go to the UK, where The Game Business reports that the Nintendo Switch 2 had a launch that was “more than two-to-one” compared to the OG Switch. The Switch did 80k in its launch within the UK, so that means the Switch 2 had to be over 160k. While not the biggest console launch ever in the area, it was the biggest for Nintendo, and that says something.
Finally, we have Spain, which also had a record launch in the nation, bringing in 108k in its first few days.
The Nintendo Switch 2 had the biggest launch of any video game system in Spain. 1) Switch 2 – 108k2) PSP – 54k3) PS5 – 48kgonintendo.com/contents/495…

So, doing some quick math (and using the lowest estimate for the UK, as we don’t know official numbers there), that means the Switch 2 has already sold 437,000 units in just its opening days in these three regions. The reason that’s significant is that this doesn’t count the United States or Japan, which had HUGE pre-order numbers and literally millions of people waiting to get the system and its games.
Thus, barring something surprising, the console is likely to break the all-time launch record for a console.
