Nintendo Reveals Insane Lifetime Sales Stats For Hardware and Software

Hail to the king, baby.

Nintendo

As all of you should hopefully know by now, Nintendo is the true grandaddy of the gaming industry. Sure, they aren’t the oldest gaming company (as they were many other things before doing video games), but they were the ones that truly saved the industry in the 80s, and have been going strong in various ways ever since. In the Switch era, they were doing things that stunned everyone regarding sales of both software and hardware, and now, they have the Switch 2 doing numbers! It does make you wonder, though, how well they’ve done all-time.

Thankfully, The Big N decided to drop those numbers, and it’s insane to hear the tally:

Nintendo says they've sold over 5.9 billion video games and over 860 million hardware units globally.

That’s crazy. The fact that Nintendo has done that well over the last 4+ decades is almost insane to fathom. Just as insane is that those numbers will continue to go up during the Switch 2 era, and will definitely cross some milestones through it. They’ll definitely reach 900 million hardware through the Switch 2, as it’s selling out everywhere and we’re only JUST over 2 months into its life, and on the software side, so long as the quality maintains, they’ll definitely get another 100 million units sold over the next few years once the games really start rolling out. Mario Kart World is already at six million-ish right now!

So, the next time you see the other companies brag about “how well they’re doing?” Show them these stats and tell them to “git gud.”
