Nintendo has announced that it will change the prices of consoles in the Nintendo Switch family, as well as dedicated accessories, in Canada. It’s important to note that they didn’t mention an increase, although this is the most likely scenario. The company justifies this change by referring to current market conditions, which is not a good sign, given the difficulties the global economy is facing.
For those wondering, the Nintendo Switch 2 will not be affected, as it belongs to a different console family and is quite new.
The brief announcement is clear regarding Nintendo Switch 2, but less clear about what to expect for the Nintendo Switch:
Pricing for the original Nintendo Switch family of systems and products in Canada will change based on market conditions. These include Nintendo Switch – OLED Model, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, physical and digital Nintendo Switch games and Nintendo Switch accessories. Other Nintendo products, including amiibo and Nintendo Switch Online memberships will also experience price changes.
Please note: This pricing change does not apply to the Nintendo Switch 2 system, accessories, or software.
At the moment, the price changes have only been announced for Canada, but there’s a risk that it could extend to other regions later. It’s surprising to think that such old and objectively outdated hardware could see a price increase. Nintendo has promised to share more details starting August 1st.
