New Rumor States Donkey Kong Movie Is Moving Ahead At Universal

Oh, BANANA!!!
By Todd BlackOctober 8, 2025
Donkey Kong Movie

Nintendo is on fire right now. The Switch 2 is dominating the sales charts, the company has several big-name games coming out in the next few months, there are three Super Nintendo World parks up and running, and, of course, they have another potential billion-dollar movie coming out next year via Super Mario Galaxy. Given all of this, it shouldn’t be a surprise that more things are “in the works” on multiple levels of the company and its IP, and that includes the long-rumored Donkey Kong Movie that many felt would happen for a while.

The latest rumor comes from Daniel Richtman via his Patreon. Those who were able to access it, like Go Nintendo, revealed that a Donkey Kong Movie is indeed moving forward at Universal. This makes sense for multiple reasons. One, DK wasn’t announced for the second Mario movie, likely because they want him in his own film. Two, Donkey Kong Bananza is a “Game of the Year” contender, and fans have never been higher on the classic ape. And three, with another movie featuring Link & Zelda on the way, now is the time to try and make multiple projects happen.

To be clear, this is still just a rumor. We don’t know if Nintendo and Universal really are going forward with this. If it does happen, though, it does make sense, and we could see more of the Kong family in action as a result.
