As I’ve noted multiple times over the past several episodes of the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast, there are certain groups out there who are being very “doom and gloom” about the Nintendo Switch 2, its hardware price, its software price, and so on, and are honestly wanting it to fail. That’s not just mean, that’s lame. Thankfully, the large majority of people are okay with what’s happening (for the most part) and are eagerly awaiting the console’s arrival in three weeks. However, there’s another element of the industry that we need to talk about here: those who do research studies and forecasts.
The one we’re talking about comes from DFC Intelligence, which noted that they feel the Nintendo Switch 2 won’t just surpass Nintendo’s initial expectations for the first fiscal year, but it’ll blast past them in record time over the next several years. Here are the highlights:
DFC Intelligence Switch 2 forecast:
– Nintendo could become the primary partner for 3rd Party publishers over the next 5 years.
– Switch 2 will sell more than 15m units by March 2026.
– Switch 2 will sell 100m units by 2029.
– Switch 2 will be the leading console system by a… pic.twitter.com/CsgNTo78nf— Stealth (@Stealth40k) May 16, 2025
Those are some BIG projections, especially the “100m by 2029” one. That would put it ahead of the OG Switch sales of the same timeframe by possibly a few million.
As for the third-party system, that one could come to pass sooner than you think, especially if the system sales continue to grow. Many companies are doing more multi-platform releases, and the Switch proved to be very good for third parties. We’ll have to wait quite a while to see if this prediction comes true…but it is something to ponder…
