Has Microsoft’s Updated Xbox Wireless Adapter Been Delayed?

By Keith MitchellAugust 10, 2017

Ever since Microsoft had announced a few weeks ago that they were releasing an updated Xbox One Wireless Adaptor for Windows, I was pretty excited. Not so much because of what the adapter does, as I already have the first version of the hardware. But more so due to several changes to the adapter. It ended up with a smaller footprint similar to a USB flash drive and the status led was moved to the front of the device. I’d also wager than the construction of the new adapter is a bit better than the previous one. I was pretty harsh on the first Xbox One Wireless Adapter for the PC in my review and for good reason.

But now, it looks like there’s a snag. Mainly, the adapter is nowhere to be found. It was supposed to be released on August 8th, 2017, alongside the three new Xbox One controllers; Grey/Green,  Volcano Shadow, and Patrol Tech variants. There was even supposed to be a bundle with the standard black controller for $80. That doesn’t seem to be the case as I’ve hit up multiple GameStop and Best Buy stores and none of those stores carried the device. When I spoke to the store’s representatives, none of them had the item in stock.

What’s more, it looks like the adapter isn’t even available on the official page for the device. Previously you could pre-order it, but now pre-order button has been grayed out. It also shows a release date of Jan. 31st, 2018 on the description. Microsoft originally told us it was coming out this year, and yet the date is right there.

This has led many to question if the adapter had been delayed of if this was just a mistake. However, seeing how the pre-order button is gone, I’m leaning towards it simply being delayed. But if this is the case, why hasn’t Microsoft come out and addressed the issue? Well, that is a good question and we’ve reached out to Microsoft to see what exactly is going on. We’ll update the story as soon as we find something out.

As it stands right now, it looks like this has been delayed, much to the disappointment of myself and other PC gamers. Hopefully we’ll hear something regarding the adapter, soon.
