Microsoft To Release An Updated Xbox Wireless Adapter for PC

By Keith MitchellAugust 2, 2017

Back during 2015, Microsoft released  Xbox Wireless Adapter for PC. And while it allowed you to connect up to eight Xbox One /Elite controllers to your PC, it had its fair share of issues. It was bulky, it stuck out too far, it was prone to breakage, had disconnection issues and it only supported Windows 10 (until they changed that). I was pretty adamant about that adapter in my review and wished it was built better.

Being perfectly honest, I’m on my third adapter, as my first one failed part. My second one extended too far and was smashed into my children. So now it sits behind my PC, which is a hassle if I want to sync controllers with it.

Well, two years later, Microsoft has announced that a new Xbox Wireless Adapter is on the way. And it looks way better than their previous release.

This time, the new Xbox Wireless Adapter is smaller, up to 66% smaller and looks similar to a USB stick. While the original  Xbox Wireless Adapter looked like an Amazon FireTV stick. This new adapter will be priced at $25 or $80 as part of a bundle that includes an Xbox One controller. It’s worth pointing out that this one is also only compatible with WIndows 10. The original was as well until they provided support for Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1.

Look for it on August 8th, 2017. You’ll be able to pick one up at either the Microsoft Online Store, Best Buy, Amazon, Gamestop, among other places. If you can’t wait, you can pre-order one now at the Microsoft Online Store.

Expect a full review as we compare this to the original Xbox Wireless Adapter.
