I’ve been talking a lot about Mario Kart World since its arrival two weeks ago, including giving it a really good score in my review! Nintendo took a lot of time and effort to try and make this game different from all that came before, including expanding the levels and overall world of the game so that players could race and drive to their heart’s content and see what awaited them around every corner. Its success was almost guaranteed from the start, even without “Day One” reviews from sites like Metacritic. Yet, it’s always nice to know just how well it did, and Japan has given us part of that answer.
Mario Kart World was the best selling game in Japan for the second week in a row.
It sold 134,900 physical units with 917,466 physical units sold total since launch.
It's already Switch 2's first million seller. pic.twitter.com/xZ8MkvyDSq

So, yeah, there you go. Just in Japan, it’s sold over 1 million units. Recall that Nintendo doesn’t reveal digital sales, but given that this is THE GAME to get on the Nintendo Switch 2, and it’s been two weeks, AND that Japan loves buying games digitally…it’s fair to assume it’s over a million.
Other reports have also indicated that the game has sold a million in the United States, which would put the game well over the two million mark. If that’s true, then that means the attach rate for the title alongside the Switch 2 is incredibly high. Given the game’s quality, and the fact that you can play it online with others, I’m not surprised by that. The real question is whether it’ll reach Mario Kart 8 Deluxe numbers!
