While there’s plenty of negativity going on in the gaming space right now (looking at you, Xbox…), it’s good to know that some good things are still happening out there that can be cheered for. Specifically, I’m talking about Nintendo and the success of both the Switch 2 and Mario Kart World. We’re very nearly to the one-month anniversary of the console, and while we don’t have “hard numbers” of how well it’s doing outside of its first week globally, Japan has been more than willing to share how well it’s doing there.
As you can see below, Mario Kart World is doing so well in Japan that it topped its charts for the fourth straight week! Even beating out other titles like Death Stranding 2. To further highlight its success, you need only look at the Switch 2 sales compared to the game sales. The Switch 2 sold 161,000 copies in its last week, with the racing title selling 145,000. So, basically, people are buying the game with the console at a very high rate.

The game has already sold well over a million units in Japan alone, and is likely to have sold over 3 million units worldwide, given the high attach rate. For my thoughts on the game, check out my Mario Kart World review!
