Manta Announces New Series Dragon King Oath by Leanne M. Krecic

Manta

Manta announced today at New York Comic Con the upcoming release of Dragon King Oath, a new series from Leeanne M. Krecic, the acclaimed creator behind the Eisner-nominated and 2023 Ringo Award-winning Let’s Play. The exclusive premiere of Dragon King Oath is slated for 2024, available only on Manta.

With today’s announcement, Krecic’s move marks the first major creator to join Manta from another platform. She is set to unveil an original title on Manta, further propelling the platform’s global influence following the recent adaptation of Lyssa Kay Adams’s popular romance story – The Bromance Book Club, and the success of the phenomenon Under the Oak Tree, slated for print publication under Penguin Random House’s imprint Inklore.

Krecic said, “In Manta, I’ve found more than just a digital comics platform; I’ve found a committed team that listens, collaborates, and celebrates shared goals. As we forge ahead, I’m reminded of the ever-supportive community that has enjoyed my work and celebrated each milestone with me. I’m eager for everyone to see what’s next.”

Krecic’s Dragon King Oath follows Princess Lisette Wylgerent, who is pledged to a fearsome dragon named Raith as part of an ancient pact and must confront her own prejudices and fears to forge a new path for her kingdom. As she delves into the complex world of dragons and uncovers the true nature of their relationship with humans, Lisette embarks on a journey of personal growth and self-discovery that will change the course of history for both races.

The world of Dragon King Oath is described as:

Hundreds of years ago, lands were decimated from wars between man and dragons. After a significant loss of many lives to what seemed an unending war, KING WYLGERENT and the leader of dragons, JORGYR, pledged an oath between king and wyrmkine.

The DRAGON KING OATH is an ancient promise that binds a king and dragon to share land harmoniously. When a dragon takes residence in the grounds presided by a king, the king must pay tribute to the wyrmkine in that of a royal daughter. In return, the dragon must not harm the king or his people and protect the lands from any threat. Ancient magics binds this oath, and to defile it would result in a curse upon both bloodlines.

Many dragons died in the wars with man, and being immortal, they have been in no rush to increase their numbers. But man breeds fast, and they live and die in the blink of a wyrmkine’s eye. Despite the passage of many human generations, The DRAGON KING OATH has only been invoked a small number of times. Because of this, no one knows or remembers what happens to the princesses when given to their new masters.

Leeanne M. Krecic, known to her fans as “Mongie”, rose in the webcomics world with the success of her series Let’s Play, which has garnered an Eisner nomination for Best Webcomic and a Ringo Award, as well as being a #1 best-selling graphic novel on Amazon in print with publisher Rocketship Entertainment. Let’s Play has drawn a global audience of 7.5 million devoted subscribers to the publishing platform.

Sungho Lee, Head of Business Development, U.S. and Europe, at Manta, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We envision Manta as the paramount destination for exceptional storytelling. When the opportunity arose to partner with Leeanne on her latest endeavor, it was an unequivocal and resounding ‘yes.’ Leeanne has cultivated an extraordinary fan base, a community eagerly anticipating her next creation, and we are confident they will be enraptured by what she is crafting.”

Dragon King Oath will be available on Manta in late 2024.
