The Story

The battle against the Black Death continues as Farma uses his divine arts to heal as many as he can, but it seems as if even with his seemingly limitless amounts of power, he has a physical limitation on how many times he can use his arts. As they continue to investigate the black death, they learn of a caravan headed away from one of the ships that circumvented the quarantine at the port. A few of the caravan’s men were left behind when they began to exhibit symptoms of the Black Death. Using their lives as a bargaining chip, Farma discovers that holy knights were escorting the caravan, and that it was headed towards the Imperial City! Farma quickly sends a message to warn them.

Meanwhile, by the time the message arrives, it’s only a mere moment or two before the caravan makes it there. They try to halt its progression, but the holy knights unleash their divine arts and break into the city. There, they release a bunch of white squirrels that were taken from the island where the black death originated. Being diseased, their goal is to spread it throughout the imperial city!

From here, a battle to quarantine Gate Six and save as many lives as possible begins. Salomon arrives to provide backup and confronts the holy knights, using an incantation to sever their divine arts veins, but it’s not enough because the true mastermind is still at large. Despite capturing as many and questioning them as possible, nobody knows the name of the man behind it; however, considering the origins of the caravan and knowing their own history, they suspect a certain someone. When they change the questions and describe the man they suspect, they get a positive I.D. match! With the culprit revealed, it’s time to track them down and bring them to justice!

Characters

This is going to be a short section because the biggest development in the volume focused on the man who led the attack against the Imperial City. I won’t reveal the name; however, I will say that he is/was a pharmacist who had a warped outlook and, as such, had his divine arts sealed. We know that this is most likely a revenge plot. Saying more will spoil a lot, so I’ll end it here, but what we do know is that this is going to be quite the formidable opponent.

Farma received a small bit of development. When they captured the discarded caravan members, they were quick to pass judgment on them, calling for their deaths; however, Farma showed his great humility by putting a halt to that. By stating that he didn’t care about their backgrounds and that he just wanted to heal them, it showed how much he cared about people all this time. Not that it wasn’t evident by the fact that he opened his own pharmacy and dedicated his new life in this other world to curing and helping others, mind you. It was just a reaffirmation of the kind and gentle soul that he is.

Final Thoughts

This continues to be a great arc with more action than I was expecting there to be! Once again, this series continues to surprise me because at first glance, one would think that this would take on a slice-of-life style format, but nope… we have magic-slinging holy knights wreaking havoc in the imperial capital as if it were straight out of a shonen action series! Plus, now that we have unraveled the cause behind the attack, it would seem as if this arc will be coming to an end soon, especially since they had gotten things under control back at the port.

It looks as if the action will continue into volume 8. I would suspect that once our person of interest is captured, we will learn some information, along with some world-building. Then, we’ll probably either get to a bit of filler or jump into the next arc. Whatever may come remains to be seen, but I am looking forward to seeing how the Black Death arc concludes. If anything, I can bet that once Farma can get back to making medicine, the Black Death will no longer be an issue going forward!

Just a hunch, mind you!
