The Story

We open up on a somber note as Saeko and Yuria complete their separation. Saeko is left a bit reeling and lost, and with job searches coming up, she doesn’t know what she’s going to do. While she’s out and about, she is approached by a hairstylist named Anri, looking for models. Having a déjà vu moment, she awkwardly agrees to letting this girl cut and dye her hair. She then gets invited to one of her “wild” parties, but in reality, she just invites a bunch of girls of all ages over to let them mingle amongst themselves.

Anri gets drunk and accidentally calls her Saebo, and now everyone thinks that’s her name. With all of that out of the way, Saeko runs into Miwa at school. Spontaneously, they decide to take a little bit of a vacation together… just as friends looking to unwind from the stress of having to job search and their upcoming graduation. While on this little adventure, they play a little game where Saeko has a candy and a 10 Yen coin. If Miwa picks the candy, they do what Saeko wants to do. If she gets the coin, Miwa gets to decide.

After they go to a few spots, it’s time to wind things down…. And things start to get a bit steamy between them; however, Miwa puts a stop to it. It seems that their time apart has caused their roles to reverse in the bedroom, with Miwa not wanting to be touched and feeling gross, and Saeko being the one to get turned on. The more time passes, the more they begin to go back to the way things were when they were dating, to the point where even the band members wonder if they had gotten back together. Because of this, Saeko does some thinking, and while she’s at another one of Anri’s parties, she comes to a realization, and seemingly makes a decision.

Characters

As I mentioned in the story section, Miwa and Saeko flipped roles when it comes to their romantic feelings. In the beginning, Saeko didn’t like being touched, so whenever she got intimate with Miwa, she would always take control. Miwa had an unquenchable sex drive, so she was okay with it until they got to the point where Miwa wanted to return the favor. That was when the rift between them began.

Now, Saeko is the one with the heightened sex drive and doesn’t even mind being touched. Miwa, on the other hand, cannot wrap her mind around intimacy anymore and even states that she’s been like that since she broke up with Tamaki; however, she’s trying to ease herself back into it little by little, and Saeko is more than happy to oblige and help her out. During their intimate sessions, they make a little more progress, and Miwa begins to realize something.

Saeko, on the other hand, begins to do some thinking about everything, which leads to the ending of our penultimate volume.

As for our new character, Anri, she’s a wild one that I can’t quite figure out. We know that she’s a hairstylist who also dated Yuria in the past, but she seems to like to surround herself with other women who are into women, but she doesn’t truly end up doing much with them, except getting drunk. In fact, she usually sulks on her phone while everyone is enjoying themselves at her party. Sure, she will mix it up and talk, but she seems to organize these get-togethers for other people rather than herself… or as an excuse to get drunk. She is quite the free spirit… completely opposite from how she originally approached Saeko on the street!

Final Thoughts

With only one volume left to go, I can clearly see how this is going to end up. With Miwa slowly edging back into intimacy, Saeko will probably come back around and agree to start dating again. Sure, there are a few roadblocks to overcome, but with the way this volume had Miwa and Saeko interact, it seems as if roadblocks can be easily fixed with just a simple vacation. I was a bit surprised by how quickly they became intimate with one another, but this wasn’t something that was just randomly thrown together. Saeko said it herself that she crossed a line with Anri when they first met because she missed the warm embrace of another person, which speaks volumes to her possibly having big regrets over the way things ended with Yuria… and Miwa.

Since she’s already really familiar with Miwa, she figures that it was the safest option to fill that void, but I don’t think she realized what she was getting herself into… or maybe she did? There are moments when she made it pretty obvious that her feelings for Miwa were still there, but now the shoe is on the other foot, with Miwa being uncomfortable with intimacy. It’s like a full-circle moment that is allowing Saeko to see their relationship through Miwa’s lens from back when they were together, and what she said at the end of the volume is something I think is going to resonate with her and make her realize the piece that has been missing this entire time.

Regardless, I’m pretty sure that we’re going to get the happy ending, but what if we don’t? That would be an interesting twist, but I can’t see it happening. I think there would be too much backlash if they went with the “friends with benefits” route. We’ll have to see because that might still be a possibility. After all, while things are in repair mode right now, there is no true indication that they will get fixed completely, and that’s the thrilling part of all of this!
