Major Evo Championship Ownership Changes Inbound

Sony will no longer own the Evo Championship series alongside Pokimaine’s RTS company as a majority shareholder. Nodwin Gaming, an Indian gaming and events company, has entered the fray and purchased Sony’s stake in the franchise.

Nodwin will join RTS for the ownership. Just because Sony has sold its ownership, it doesn’t mean that the company will not support Evo. Sony will become a global sponsor of the event up to 2028. Sony is also backing Nodwin Gaming. Qiddiya is also investing in RTS and will remain a global partner for the fighting game major until 2027, according to Evo last week. Nodwin Gaming is already excited about the news.

If Pakistani Tekken 8 champ Arshlan Ash has proven that there is a passionate FGC scene within the Southeast Asian territories, the goals of Evo’s expansion would merit a company well-versed in the esports scene within the space before Evo Singapore 2027 is underway. Nodwin’s ability to bring experiences to India, such as PUBG majors, Dreamhack India, Comic Con India, Valorant Challengers South Asia, might be the factor needed to restore faith in the move.

“When SIE acquired Evo alongside RTS in 2021, our goal was to help the Evo community grow and spotlight the skills and passion of fighting game fans on a global stage. As SIE transitions to become an Evo sponsor, the momentum for Evo has never been stronger, following a successful Las Vegas event and upcoming expansion to new regions. We look forward to supporting the continued growth of Evo globally.”

Phil Rosenberg, SVP and Head of Global Partner Development & Relations at Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Sony’s involvement will still be a force to reckon with when their exclusive tag-team fighting game Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls gets released as a possible showstopping main event game next year. The 4 vs 4 Marvel game has already garnered a lot of attention for an Arc System Works title before it’s even released. A beta is scheduled for next month.
