Logitech Scoops Up Rival Astro For 85 Million

By Keith MitchellJuly 12, 2017

Yesterday, popular peripheral maker Logitech announced that they are acquiring a rival company, Astro, for $85 million in cash. Oddly enough, Logitech states this is their way of getting a foothold into the console market, the very market that they left in 2013, due to massive losses. However, the key difference here is that Logitech will let Astro continue to do what they have been doing for the last few years.

I’m happy to share that we’ve found this same love for design and the sport of gaming in our newest team members: joining the Logitech G gaming team is ASTRO Gaming. ASTRO’s history of producing award-winning headsets for pro esports and console gamers perfectly complements the PC gaming expertise Logitech G is best known for.

And we know you love (or will love) ASTRO just as much as we do. So the ASTRO brand, and their awesome products aren’t going anywhere.

Logitech will continue to work in the PC and Mobile Space, while Astro will stay within the gaming console space. Looking at it from a consumer perspective, this is actually good news for both sides. Logitech picks up a new partner, while Astro has a partner who has the reserves to help them do more. In the end, this looks to be a win/win for both the companies and those that purchase their products. Also, don’t forget about the eSports angle as well – this is a good pairing if you ask me.

Logitech is definitely building up a presence, there’s no doubt there. This deal comes after the previous acquisition of the Saitek brand from Mad Catz (defunct) for 13 million. I wonder if this means we’ll see both brands under the same booth at upcoming gaming conventions now.
