Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Demo Sails Into Harbor Today

Yesterday during Sony’s State of Play, SEGA and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio revealed that a demo for the much-anticipated Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii would arrive this weekend. Well, it looks like trade winds were in Goro Majima’s favor. The demo for Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is now available.

First, for those who’d like a taste of what to expect from the demo, here’s the trailer:

It’s great to see that the demo looks to feature both naval and on-land combat. I’m especially curious to see how the ship handles at sea. And as a fan of the real-time Yakuza combat personally, it’s nice to see this title keeping that alive. Nothing against turn-based combat, but if I’m a pirate I want some fast-paced action.

In a press release, SEGA shared a bit more about what players can expect from the demo:

In the demo [players are] able to explore a slice of the massive Honolulu map and kick arrrss with Majima’s Sea Dog & Mad Dog fighting styles, then head to the secret criminal haven of Madlantis to test their might in real-time ship & deck battles in the Pirates’ Coliseum naval arena. Immerse yourself in thrilling action with furious combat and get a peek at some of the content available in the full game that also includes open-sea adventure, ship customization, crew building, an epic story and more!

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii serves as a side-story for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Instead of Ichiban Kasuga, players step into the shoes of series stalwart Goro Majima. Losing his memory upon washing up in Hawaii, Majima pieces together his memory while assembling a crew along the way.

And for those who miss Ichiban Kasuga, players who pre-order the game can add him to their crew. Oh, and Nancy the crawfish of course. They’ll also receive two of Ichiban Kasuga’s costumes for Majima to wear.

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will arrive for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Expect it to sail into stores on the release date of February 21st, 2025.
