During my adventures at Summer Game Fest 2025, one of the unannounced games that ended up getting revealed while I was there was a new LEGO-themed title called LEGO Party! that is currently in development by SMS Studio. And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like.
Now, before I dive into the details, I’ll be upfront—I’m a little bitter. Not because the game is bad (it’s not), but because it cheats. Okay, not really… but it does have the ability to completely ruin your day, especially if you’re doing well. You’ll see.
We had only just found out about the game, maybe a day before arriving at the event. We booked our appointment without really knowing what we were walking into. When we showed up at the booth, myself, Scott, and two others were briefed on what LEGO Party! was. Then we were handed controllers, and that’s when the game proceeded to absolutely kick my ass.
But I’m getting ahead of myself.
What Is LEGO Party!?
Ah yes, the golden question. As the name suggests, it’s a party game, one that’s overflowing with LEGO charm. The game is family-friendly (though it will make you swear, trust me), and it features a bunch of recognizable LEGO franchises, including the LEGO Space, LEGO Pirates, and my personal favorite, LEGO Ninjago. In fact, this might be the first game I’ll be able to convince my wife to play with me. We love building LEGO together, and my basement is already littered with tons of completed LEGO sets.
LEGO Party! features 60 different mini-games and plays out across a board that supports up to four players, either locally or online. Think Mario Party vibes, but with a LEGO twist.
Scott, I, and a few unsuspecting attendees went head-to-head in a chaotic mashup of rhythm games, matching challenges, races, and more, all in pursuit of one thing: those sweet, sweet Golden Bricks. That is, if you can hang onto them. No, no. I’m not mad. Not one bit…
Winning isn’t just about placing first in a mini-game. Your score is based on how many Golden Bricks and LEGO Studs you collect along the way. And to make things even more unpredictable, there are various power-ups that shake up the game in all kinds of ways. Slow your roll counter that guarantees favorable rolls, backtrack for a bonus, or straight-up yoink bricks from someone else. Supposedly, those events are random. But when you suddenly lose all your bricks in one go, it sure doesn’t feel like it. It’s anyone’s game, until it isn’t.
There’s a ton going on in LEGO Party! Players can alter the board, sabotage opponents, set traps, find shortcuts, and more. It’s a modern take on the classic party game formula, infused with pure, unfiltered chaos. And honestly? It might end a few friendships.
But wait, there’s more. Once the game hits its halfway mark, Escalation Mode activates. Rewards get bigger, penalties get nastier, and it all ramps up again during the final round. Things get real fast.
Of course, there’s a pair of wise-cracking commentators adding just the right amount of sass to every move—or, you know, absolutely roasting you when you’re in last place. Not that I’d know anything about that.
Final Thoughts
Bottom line: LEGO Party! seems like it will be an absolute blast, especially if you’ve got a few friends (or sworn enemies) to play with. It’s dropping later this year for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
But be warned, this game will absolutely single you out, steal your Golden Bricks, and laugh in your face while it does it.
