Legend of Zelda Voice Actor Describes What It Takes To Voice Princess Zelda

It's not just "putting on a voice."

Voice acting is an art form. Let no one tell you different. It might seem as simple as “changing your voice a bit,” but when you’re trying to show emotion in that voice, or doing it for long periods of time, it wears on you. Plus, sometimes you have to sound REALLY different from what you usually do, including putting on accents. In the case of Patricia Summersett, she’s been the voice of Princess Zelda across multiple games, including The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, and Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity. She’s the first true voice actor behind the character, and many agree she’s done a great job.

In a recent interview, Patricia Summersett revealed what it took to become Princess Zelda vocally, and you might be surprised by how she does it:

The reason that this is important is simple: she’ll be back as Zelda really soon. While The Legend of Zelda hasn’t gotten a new mainline game announced on the Nintendo Switch 2 yet, Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment has been confirmed for late 2025, and that game will have Zelda in an even more prominent role than before.

As such, the real question is what Nintendo will do for the next mainline entry. Will they hire a new Zelda voice actor? Only time will tell.
