Lee Chaolan Makes his Explosive Return in Tekken 8

By Kevin KellyJanuary 17, 2024

Lee Chaolan returns in Tekken 8 and has a lot of flash to show for it in his new dedicated trailer.  Lee Chaolan’s been one of my favorites in Tekken 2, so seeing him here has been a blast. And it looks like Lee has traded up for something else, style-wise. Perhaps he’s looking to use this for the massive battle against the Mishimas that will transpire in story mode. The official site’s got more on this:

It is called the Violet Suit, a marvelous creation that utilizes sophisticated technologies and is equipped with numerous features that reflect Lee’s own aesthetics. Lee struts onto the battlefield in this new armor, ready to take on whatever may come.

Extracting his revenge in style seems to be his strong suit. It was hard to tell who the real king of kicks was between him and Haowrang. With some of Paul and Marshall Law’s features still ingrained, it’s already apparent that Chaolan does a lot of good with his high and mid moves. Feels like Chaolan’s a bit faster this round.

His Heat Mode continues his close-range assault with more high kicks. You can see Marshall Law’s somersault kick is still a part of Lee’s arsenal. His taunt stance is back, also. He has a quicker armor break kick that doesn’t leave much room to punish. His bomb tech, Hachi, seems to be only in his victory pose, while his Combot is shown in his explosive Rage Art. Instead of the Tuxedo Mask rose throw that was his Tekken 7 run, Lee Chaolan opts for an explosive rose-like bomb. Something I noticed is that Hachi looks VERY familiar to someone who isn’t currently present in Tekken 8… as of yet.

And this stage Lee Chaolan’s got. A shrine to his brilliance but a crumbling temple to any glass hits. Even his portrait disagrees with the thrashing. At this point, Lee Chaolan is probably the last base roster fighter to be shown, with a trailer, before the official launch next week. Eddy Gordo will be returning as the first post-launch DLC combatant.

Lee Chaolan will make his Excellent appearance in Tekken 8 on the base roster on January 26th on PlayStation 5, X-Box Series X | S, and Steam.
