Oh, there’s quite a bit of games I need to play in 2020
With the end of the year being right around the corner, I figured it was time to talk about the upcoming games that I can’t wait to get my hands on. We’re all gamers here, and I know that we’re thinking the same thing when it comes to a new year – more games!
And while 2019 was a great year for gaming, 2020 is going to be even better. Just look at the first quarter of the year, as it’s littered with hit after hit. Next year will be amazing, and perhaps even worse on our bank accounts than 2019 ever was.
That said, here are my most anticipated games of 2020. Enjoy!
DOOM Eternal
Ah, DOOM. A series that is very near and dear to my heart for any number of reasons. Then, of course, we can’t forget about that amazing reboot the game received back in 2016. The action was over the top, Mick Gordon’s soundtrack was the stuff of legends, and the gameplay was satisfying. All of which I’m expecting the follow-up to have and more. Plus, we’re going to get back that sword, the Crucible, that we never got to play with during DOOM 2016, thanks to Samuel Hayden snatching from us at the end of the game.

Resident Evil 3 Remake
Capcom nailed the remake of Resident Evil 2 earlier this year, and I mean, that really nailed it. Lots of action, beautiful visuals, all while keeping the horror elements intact. A must-play for any survival horror fan. Now the company has set its focus on remastering Resident Evil 3. From what we’ve seen so far, it looks like the series’s fans are in for another glorious ride.

The Last of Us Part II
When the first game dropped, I played it non-stop. Believe me; my wife wasn’t too thrilled at the time. I imagine the very same will hold to the follow-up. Not to mention that Naughty Dog has crafted a world that looks to be in its final days, and I can’t wait to see how it plays into the story.

Cyberpunk 2077
It’s been quite a while since we’ve had a decent cyberpunk video game, with the last one being Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. An ambitious game for sure, but CD Projekt Red has plans to blow that the genre out of the water. A massive, living city, multiple plays to play, and much more. Oh yes, it’s supposedly going to be a huge game. Larger than The Witcher 3, let that sink in.

Ghost of Tsushima
When it comes to action/adventure games, I can play them all day. But when you combine them with open-world elements, with the game taking place in the days of early Japan. Well, I go crazy about that sort of stuff, which is exactly what Sucker Punch is doing for Ghost of Tsushima. The only disappointing thing about the title is that we don’t have a release date just yet.

Half-Life: Alyx
Yes, this isn’t Half-Life 3, and that’s more than fine. Instead, we’re getting a AAA virtual reality experience based in the lore rich Half-Life universe. Valve’s return to a fan-favorite series, and one that promises to push the limits of VR for the PC. This time, we’ll get to play as Alyx Vance attempts to take on the Combine. I don’t know about you, but I’m excited about this.

Final Fantasy VII Remake
After three different playthroughs of Square Enix’s epic RPG for the original PlayStation (1997), I thought I was immune to the remake fever. Except I was completely wrong. The more I see Final Fantasy VII Remake in action, and the more I hear about it, I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Sure, it is in an episodic format, which I disagree with, but there’s no denying this game is high on my list for 2020.

Marvel’s Avengers
I’ll be honest here; I’m not sure about Marvel’s Avengers. While I’m perhaps the biggest Marvel Comics fan here on staff, I have some reservations about the game’s direction. Still, the gameplay seems to have grown on me, and I do like the idea of it being “Destiny-like” and jumping into both a single-player or playing with friends. We’re still good five months away from release, and hopefully, my doubts will be lessened before the release.

Halo Infinite
Next-generation Halo title starring that lovable spartan, Master Chief. I mean, do I need to say anything else?

Elden Ring
I’ve conquered all the Dark Souls games, put down the Orphan of Kos, and reached the best ending in Sekiro. I’m a fiend for a Fromsoftware game, and Elden Ring is the next masterpiece that I must play. Hidetaka Miyazaki is directing, along with George R. R. Martin (A Song of Fire and Ice/Game of Thrones), who’s in charge of the storytelling and lore. An open-world RPG, perhaps the largest game that Fromsoftware has ever worked on and has been in development since the final DLC for Dark Souls III. Outside of that, we know very little about this ambitious title.
Sadly, there’s no release but Elden Ring, but we’re hoping for a 2020 release. Fingers crossed!

Streets of Rage 4
As someone who owned a Sega Genesis, I loved the Streets of Rage / Bare Knuckle series. My younger self was quite frustrated when Sega refused to give us another romp and shelved the IP for several years. Thankfully, we’ll finally see the continuation of the series, and from everything I’ve seen and heard, the game is on track to be just as good as the previous titles.

And these are my most anticipated games of 2020. Of course, this can and will likely change if some new game gets released and one that completely knocks my socks of. But until this, these games that I’ve listed will be on heavy rotation once released. What about you?
