Next year will be an interesting one for Nintendo in many respects. 2026 will be the first full “calendar year” for the Nintendo Switch 2, which they’re aiming to supply with great games to keep its record sales going. Then, on the other side of their empire, they have a new movie coming out via The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. We’ve seen one trailer and one small clip from the film, and it looks to be pulling out all the stops to both pay tribute to the games that inspired it, while also doing its own thing. However, one constant between the first film and the second film will be the returning voice of Jack Black as Bowser.
He had a chat with GamesRadar+ about the film and promised that when it came to Easter Eggs, there would be plenty to look for:
“I am a sworn to secrecy, but there’s tons of Easter eggs, and anyone who loves that universe will be very pleased with the way that it’s been brought to the big screen.”
Through the first glimpses of the picture, you can spot that multiple games from Mario’s expansive universe will be referenced in it. Odyssey, Wonder, and more have already had Easter Eggs shown, and there’s still plenty we don’t know about the movie’s overall plot, like how Mario, Peach, and the others get jettisoned into space, how they meet Rosalina (played by Brie Larson), how much of a factor Jack Black, er, Bowser, will be, and so on.
The biggest question, though, is whether it’ll gross 1.3 billion dollars as the first one did! Guess we’ll find out when The Super Mario Galaxy Movie arrives next April.
