Timing is everything, especially in the video game industry. If you don’t put in the right amount of time into a title, it’ll be hindered, or straight-up avoided by players, at launch. Or, if you launch a good title in a crowded window, it could hurt your sales. Another factor is making a title for one system, and then making the choice to wait for the next console so that you can make the game truly shine. For the Nintendo Switch 2, that happened with Mario Kart World (read our review!), and Hyrule Warriors Age Of Imprisonment can now join those ranks!
In an interview with Famitsu, Yosuke Hayashi, who’s the head of the studio making the game, noted that the Koei Tecmo team initially began the project on the OG Switch before shifting it to its successor:
“When this project first started, we were developing it as a Nintendo Switch game for a while. We changed it to Nintendo Switch 2 midway through, and just by transferring what we had been creating up until then to Nintendo Switch 2, the number of enemies that appeared and the frame rate changed dramatically, and the game simply became a lot more fun. We were also surprised at how much the game’s fun could change thanks to the hardware.”
It makes sense that Hyrule Warriors Age Of Imprisonment could’ve been on the OG Switch, as that’s where Tears of the Kingdom was first launched. However, despite the impressive nature of Age of Calamity on the console, it’s not hard to think that the Nintendo Switch 2 will do better with this game. We’ll find out when it releases this Winter!
