Fight Elden Ring Nightreign’s Balancer Bosses Without Playing The Great Hollow

By Keith MitchellDecember 18, 2025
ELDEN RING NIGHTREIGN The Forsaken Hollows

With the release of Elden Ring Nightreign’s first DLC, The Forsaken Hollows, players were introduced to a brand-new Shifting Earth, The Great Hollow, that, frankly, isn’t one of my favorites. Sure, it’s packed with field bosses and offers a lot of variety, but it’s also a tad confusing to navigate.

However, by default, selecting the Balancer Nightlord will automatically take you to the new Great Hollow location. But did you know you can still fight the Balancers and skip that map entirely?

Fighting The Balancers Nightlord on a different Shifting Earth

Just like other bosses in the game, you can change the Shifting Earth to one you’re more familiar with and still take on the Balancers.

To do so, head to the Collector’s Signboard and select Conjure a Shift in the Earth.

Then, select any of the other Shifting Earth options that you would rather play on. It will cost 1 Sovereign Sigil to put this Shifting Earth into effect. If you don’t already have any of the Sovereign Sigils, you’ll need to fight and defeat any off the current Everdark Nightlords.

By doing this, you can head back to Expeditions, and you’ll see that regardless of which Nightlord you tackle, whatever Shifting Earth you selected will be in place.

This also works the other way around. If you simply want to play on the new Forsaken Hollows Shifting Earth for any Nightlord, you can select that option as well, again for 1 Sovereign Sigil.

That said, the Great Hollow is an interesting, if confusing map and there’s lots of rewards, as well as exploration that can make for a good experience. But only after you’ve learned the ins and outs of it. So, don’t keep ignoring it, but don’t let it stop your progression either.
