Hello Kitty Island Adventure Review (PS5) – Sanrio Crossing

By Scott AdamsAugust 5, 2025
Game review template for Hello Kitty Island Adventure

I have seen Hello Kitty Island Adventure everywhere it feels like. Updates, ports, and people talking about it have covered my feed on social media websites. I finally gave in when we got asked about reviewing the PlayStation 5 port of the game.

Game Name: Hello Kitty Island Adventure
Platform(s): MacOS, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 (Reviewed)
Developer(s): Sunblink
Publisher(s): Sunblink

Release Date: August 5th, 2025
Price: $39.99

The colorful characters of Sanrio are on a plane. After a cake machine mishap, the plane starts to go down, and everyone on the plane dips before it crashes and lands on this mysterious island. It is now up to you and the rest of these characters to stay on this island and survive there.

The Good

Hello Kitty Island Adventure has a lot of charm. The designs, the Sanrio characters, the tasks you can do, this game has a lot going for it. This is a game I played with my wife to help get her viewpoint on it as well. She is a huge fan of the cozy game genre, and Hello Kitty Island Adventure has the bearings of a cozy game.

Most of the puzzles and tasks are pretty easy and straightforward. If you accept a quest, you have a little light fairy that will lead you to the destination to fulfill that quest. It makes it pretty difficult to get lost in the map. Even if a puzzle is too hard for you, if you have a companion following you, you can turn to that companion, and they will help solve the puzzle. It makes the game stress-free.

There are a lot of options in Hello Kitty Island Adventure. If there is something you aren’t interested in, whether that be fishing, cooking, or crafting, you don’t have to engage with it. There are a lot of things you can invest in. The more you get into those aspects, whether it be making gifts and giving them to your favorite Sanrio characters, the more satisfying it is. A lot of the rewards you receive for working on the island are outfit pieces, ingredients, resources, or blueprints.

The mysterious island in Hello Kitty Island Adventure feels huge. You can travel to a lot of locations that can be mountains, beaches, deserts, and more on this island. Luckily, on the map, it shows you the icons that represent the Sanrio characters and where you can fast travel. Though you have to have been at a location before it shows up on the map. The Sanrio character icons will still show up where they are, even if you haven’t been to their location.

The scope of Hello Kitty Island Adventure is ridiculous for the cozy game setup. When I asked my wife what she didn’t like about the game, she told me it felt like a lot. There is always something to do, and it feels overbearing. There are also a lot of areas to grab resources, but not a lot of help aids in finding out where these other resources are located.

The daily and weekly tasks don’t seem to be based on your current standing in the game’s story. It would give out tasks that I wouldn’t know the first step to accomplishing. No help in telling me where the pizza oven is, or how to make dough for the pizza. There are also locations and items I didn’t unlock that these tasks were asking me to use.

The Verdict

Overall, Hello Kitty Island Adventure does what it was supposed to, provide a cozy and charming experience in an island exploring and building adventure. It can feel like a lot, but there is no pressure to finish everything under the sun. If you want more Sanrio in your life, this is an easy grab. If you are a cozy game enjoyer, then maybe it is worth a try.

Hello Kitty Island Adventure is available on iOS, macOS, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It will be available on PlayStation 5, August 5th, 2025.
