It wasn’t that long ago that we started getting news about the upcoming Gundam anime film, Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe, specifically its opening and ending themes. We learned that R&B artist SZA’s song “Snooze” will serve as the opening theme, while “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses will play during the ending credits. Both are unexpected picks for a Gundam film, but honestly, that makes the choice even cooler.
Now we’ve gotten a short snippet of the Guns N’ Roses track playing over footage from the movie. While much of it looks familiar, there are a few moments that seem new. We catch glimpses of the RX-93 ν Gundam (Nu Gundam) in action, along with Quess Paraya, Hathaway Noah’s former love interest, as flashbacks.
This is important as all these were involved in the past and we’re killed off (or destroyed) in Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack. Which you should totally watch if you haven’t already.
As for when we’ll see the film in the U.S., there’s still no official date, but we know it’s coming. Gundam’s popularity in the States continues to grow every year, and the first film, Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway, performed well enough to build strong momentum for this sequel. Speaking of which, the original film is still being streamed on Netflix, so also check that out if you haven’t and you have a Netflix subscription.
As a longtime Gundam fan—from the anime to Gunpla and just about everything else—I’m genuinely excited for this one. I enjoyed the first film, even with its heavier political focus, but that’s always been part of Gundam’s DNA. I’ll be ready to grab my ticket as soon as they go on sale.
