Guilty Gear Strive: Lucy Character Guide Released

Lucy is here in Guilty Gear Strive

Arc System Works has released a character guide for the new Guilty Gear Strive Daredevil – Lucy from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Lucy’s gameplay had been released in the Evo USA 2025 tournament run, but the deeper dive is also here.  Lucy has been Esekai’ed into the world of Gears and magic. How she got here or what her purpose is still unknown. However, it seems as though Lucy might be able to dig up information on her opponents.  With her abilities, gun, and whip to probably not excite, Lucy is no slouch on neutral. Her range can vary, which helps her get the most out of pressure.

The Monowire can strike from higher distances. She can also cancel attacks with Monowire. Her gun, Unity, can get 3 hits as a fast projectile weapon because you need that fast hand in Night City. Crouching opponents will whiff the bullets. Her Sprint Attack can cover a distance, but is dangerous if it is blocked, causing more of an opening to come. It also holds options such as a Sweep and a cross-up. Her Breakout is a good wakeup move with fast priority.

Quickhack is the same as Cyberpunk 2077, whereas RAM fuels the move and needs 50% of Tension to activate. Dust will suspend the Quickhack. The follow-up move can hinder the opponent with a push up or down to select them. Heavy Slash does the install. Lucy has 6 of these that she can choose from, such as Pacify to slow down Tension gains or Optics Inhibition to glitch Lucy’s detection, making her have a bit of a glitch look to her sprite to hide moves. Each hack activates over time. If we learned anything about CD Projekt Red characters being guests in fighting games, it’s that they bring their own RPG skill kits with them to keep their opponents on their toes. Geralt brought his hexes, such as Quen, to Soulcalibur VI, for starters.

Lucy seems to bring about something that is missing from Strive: an Instant Kill. Guilty Gear devs decided to leave the moves on the cutting room floor thanks to challenges in making Guilty Gear accessible to a broader audience. Lucy ain’t about audiences, though. Her Livewire super holds a deadlier additional move called Deepdive if the Tension gauge is 100%. It automatically happens, allowing Lucy to probe into the opponent’s connections and auto-KOs them.

Rooflemonger goes a bit more into the paint on how Lucy affects the meta with her kit, as well as her moveset.

For a bit more of a demonstration of this in real time, LegacyOfKaiser has already started with Lucy vs Ky Kiske fights.

To Rank Up, Daredevils

Thanks to the new update, a new Ranking System will be put into place over the original. The Duwl Tower will be replaced by a character-specific ranking system called the Rank Tower. Wins and losses will still determine points distribution, but the focus is on the characters now.  Ten placement matches will be held to figure out where one sits within the 7 ranks. It’s the road to the final rank – Vanquisher – from there. Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, will be the ladders to climb with 3 ranks within each tier.

Developer’s Backyard 18 mentioned this and the various new changes to the system.

Lucy will be the final character for Season 4 to follow Queen Dizzy, Urika, and Venom, on August 21st for PlayStation 4 | 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, and Steam. Nintendo Switch will be getting these updates during the Fall of 2025. Guilty Gear Strive will be having a new season next year to kick off Guilty Gear Strive 2.0.
