Ghost of Yōtei Gets Deep Dive State of Play on July 10

By Keith MitchellJuly 8, 2025
State of Play - Ghost of Yotei - July 2025

We’re officially less than 100 days away from the release of Ghost of Yōtei, the highly anticipated sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, and the hype is building fast. The game is set to launch exclusively for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro on October 2, 2025, and to get everyone fired up, PlayStation is airing a special State of Play gameplay deep dive on July 10, 2025, at 2 pm PT / 5 pm ET / 10 pm BST / 11 pm CEST, on PlayStation’s Twitch and YouTube channels.

Ghost of Yōtei was announced during the September 2024 State of Play, which immediately sparked conversation and frustration amongst fans of the first game due to a new protagonist, Atsu, a warrior driven by revenge, being presented. Atsu, also happens to be a female, which, for reasons I don’t understand, still frustrates gamers for various reasons.

The decision to move away from Ghost of Tsushima’s beloved protagonist Jin Sakai stirred controversy. While many welcomed the change, others questioned why Sucker Punch didn’t continue Jin’s story. Not to mention that this game’s story takes place nearly 300 years after the first game, so Jin and his comrades are more than likely enjoying eternal rest. Regardless, several of us here at The Outerhaven are genuinely looking forward to seeing where Atsu’s story leads.

This week’s State of Play promises to be our best look yet at the upcoming title. Hosted by Sucker Punch Creative Directors Jason Connell and Nate Fox, the stream will showcase nearly 20 minutes of gameplay. Expect a deep dive into Atsu’s new combat abilities, weapons, world customization options, and some surprise special modes that should give the game some serious replay value.

Whether you’re excited to embrace a new Ghost or still hung up on Jin, Ghost of Yōtei is shaping up to be one of the most exciting PS5 releases of the year. We’ll be watching closely — and of course, breaking everything down right here on The Outerhaven.
