Fatal Fury City of the Wolves: Kain Gameplay Trailer Revealed

By Kevin KellyFebruary 16, 2025
Fatal Fury City Of The Wolves

SNK revealed that the boss of the game will be making a comeback to the Maximum Mayhem tournament. Kain Heinlein will be coming to Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. SNK brought the news during the Evo Awards last night, along with his gameplay trailer. The twist is that Kain seems to have had a change of heart post the events of Mark of the Wolves. The antagonist’s motives seem to be slightly different, just as he and his nephew, Rock, decide to team up in order to find his sister and Geese Howard’s “widow”—Marie.

A young idealist burning with ambition. Having torn through numerous hostile organizations around South Town, Kain makes an unsettling discovery: his older sister, Marie, is being held captive by one of them. Knowing that his will alone cannot right this wrong, he joins forces with Rock Howard to secure her release. A twist of fate, a dream for the future—with unwavering resolve, Kain directs his attention to the upcoming KOF tournament, hoping to return Marie to safety at last.

SNK has a history of turning boss characters into anti-heroes for their fighting games. Chizuru’s first King of Fighters ’96 appearance, as well as her 2003 entry, featured her as a boss character before she would play nice with the other roster children and be severely nerfed in order to do so. Kain doesn’t seem to be missing many steps in his return, though.

Heinlein possesses his usual flames, along with some detonation projectiles that can negate others before they’re set. Kain’s zoning efforts are still present. His Himmlische Atem super is also here, but for his Hidden DM, it’s just as flashy as the Mark of the Wolves Skyfall. Charging is Kain’s game, and he can be scary when he does it. Kain’s original stage is still intact as well.

With Kain returning, only 3 more characters are left in the base roster to be revealed before the April 24th launch date. With serial killer Freeman and Kim Jae Hoon as well as Hokumontaru not in, it’s probably a sure bet that these three will be in attendance. It’s hard to narrow down who is left thanks to SNK wanting to add legacy characters to the run. Perhaps we will see the leader of the very force that is holding Marie hostage. Whomever it is seems to even get past henchmen to come out of hiding such as Billy Kane and recently – Mr. Big. Brett Calo will be voicing him.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves will be available on April 24th for PlayStation 4 | 5, Xbox Series X | S, and Steam.
