The Evo Showcase for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves happened earlier this week with a few surprises. Of course, the results of the team battle were in Team ET’s favor over Menard’s team, with the final score being 5-3. Nitro didn’t play any games and wastes no time giving Hokutomaru a grand introduction through a brutal 19-hit combo. Some dev team members also sat down with Evo to discuss more about the upcoming title and its triumphant return.

300+ Tracks Isn’t Madness
350 tracks will be included in Fatal Fury City of the Wolves, including the 11 collaboration tracks from the DJs who joined. Especially from Ganacci and his hands-on approach. These would be tracks that have spanned across the entire series with no stone unturned. If this is totally so, this would mean that not only is the original series brought in, but King of Fighters soundtrack songs and SNK Heroines would be included, also.
If collaborations’ past can tell us more about this, Street Fighter’s Ken and Chun-Li will also bring in more music when they are introduced. Potentially, these would be from Street Fighter and Capcom vs SNK, as well as SNK’s end of the collaboration – SNK vs Capcom. Companies who welcomed SNK characters in their games have done wonders for their themes. For instance, I’d still bump Smash Bros Ultimate’s version of Fatal Fury Richard Meyer’s Hamar because of the epicness that Namco concocted.
Fatal Fury: Homecoming of the Wolves
According to SNK, the team wants to bring EVERYONE back to Southtown. From a count standpoint, up to Garou, there was at least 50 characters introduced in the Fatal Fury series. From Terry all the way to about Kain, the team wants them all back. Fighting games typically last at least 7 years per iteration these days, and with at least 5 DLC characters per season, the number to bring back should at least be around 30 or so.
This could be feasible and it means that everyone could be here. If you missed Real Bout’s Xiangfei, Dominated Mind’s Alfred, or 3’s Hon Fu, guess what? They’ll be coming. Just no to Alice, I hope. Even Krauser could possibly be coming. The aim is a two-month window per DLC release. That said, projected would be Andy in June, Ken in August, Joe comes in October, Chun-Li appears in December, and Mr. Big will finish things off at the end of the DLC year.
Two Lane Battles are Back
The part of Fatal Fury that made its own mark in the Fighting Game genre has returned. Two Lane fighting has made its way back to Fatal Fury after it was left post the Mark of the Wolves game. One particular stage, which is Dream Land, will have this feature. There is a small two-person icon at the top of the stage. Of course, the potential of having dedicated tournaments for this is unequalled. Lane Switching can be used as a defensive mechanism for projectile dodging, for instance. Some combos can also extend to having opponents switch lanes midway to keep it going, thanks to particular moves.
Unlike Mai and Terry’s Street Fighter 6 nods to this, in their target combo sets, the moves will end with the target character being on either end.

The series has had this from the start, with a majority of stages having this feature baked in later games up to Garou: Mark of the Wolves. Some stages did have consequences for being pushed into the hazards on these stages, such as additional damage from electricutions or bull-ramming from Fatal Fury 2. The Real Bout subseries changed the 2-Lane system with a bit more of a sway-type feature. Ringouts were also implemented for the first Real Bout game, whereas a character can be pushed off of a broken wall to fall to their embarrassing comical end. This mechanic will also make an appearance for stages in the long run.
