Ex-Sony Head Has “Unique Take” On Nintendo Switch 2

He's retired, shouldn't the bias have left by now?

The Nintendo Switch 2 has only been unveiled in full for less than two weeks, and people are heaping all sorts of reactions upon it. To be fair, we’ve done the same with the Nintendo Entertainment Podcast, and not everything we’ve said has been positive about the new console, which is fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, you do occasionally hear an opinion that makes you raise an eyebrow about what’s being said. One such opinion has come from Shuhei Yoshida, the former leader of PlayStation Studios, who did an interview with Easy Allies recently and discussed the new system.

In it, as noted in the tweet below, he feels that the Nintendo Switch 2 felt like a case of Nintendo losing its identity due to it just being a “better Switch” than before. He felt that because Sony and Xbox had been doing that for a while that Nintendo wasn’t doing what it had done many times in the past.

“Because it’s a better Switch, the core premise of the whole Switch 2 is, you know, “we made things better” and that’s something other companies have been doing all the time”… pic.twitter.com/FaTHUu3F2o

While you could see part of what he’s going for there, it does feel a bit odd to say in the first place. Easily the biggest reason is that Nintendo HAS gone the “we made it better than before” route multiple times, including from the NES to the SNES or even the N64 to the Gamecube. Plus, fans have wanted to have a “better Switch” for several years now, and The Big N listened to many of their complaints when improving and redesigning things for the Switch 2.

Plus, there ARE new elements here, including the Joy-Con 2 controllers being able to operate like a mouse controller, which will open up new options for gameplay.

Thus, you have to wonder if the ex-Sony guy is harping a bit on Nintendo for “past loyalties…” Just saying!
