Evo France 2025: SNK Shadowdrops Kizuna Encounter

By Kevin KellyOctober 11, 2025
Kizuna Encounter

SNK revealed today that the sequel to Tag Fighter, Savage Reign, and Kizuna Encounter will be available through the Neo Geo Premium Selection brand for Steam and PC. This will be the second game in the series, next to Real Bout Fatal Fury 2. Not to be outdone by rival X-Men Vs Street Fighter’s resurrection via Marvel vs Capcom: Fighting Collection, SNK decided to bring the 1996 classic back for one last ride. In fact, Kizuna Encounter was released after the Marvel classic came about, but Savage Reign predated X-Men vs Street Fighter. While the characters had more staying power in later games as either cameos or full-fledged roster adds in the likes of King of Fighters XI, this was the end of the Savage Reign series.

Kizuna Encounter has some brand new features, such as Rollback Netcode, a 9-Player max Tournament mode, and an updated practice mode. We’re talking hitbox / hurtbox viewers and speed modifiers. Game music will also be available in the gallery for this 4-player fighter.

Kizuna Encounter’s features did make it a bit of a standout, thanks to the tag feature. Although it was more rigid than X-Men vs Street Fighter’s concept, the fighter brought along a fresh take on the scene it came to. Being in a certain area allows tag to happen, as well as tag-based combination attacks that came out of this one. Super moves were also present as Desperation Moves when the health bar was flashing. The way Kizuna Encounter pulled off the tag combination move was used later on in SNK’s Neo Geo Battle Coliseum.

At the current time, Kizuna Encounter is 25% off on Steam, which would be the perfect time to get reacquainted with the brawler. No word on when Kizuna Encounter will make it to consoles such as Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5 yet.
