Epic Donkey Kong Bananza Direct Highlights Game’s Incredible Depth

The Power of DK (and Pauline!) Compels You!
By Todd BlackJune 18, 2025
Donkey Kong Bananza

The reason that fans were excited about Donkey Kong Bananza when it was revealed in April was that DK DESERVED a new game. When we got some first looks into it, the game looked like a truly expansive time full of fun and things to find. Today, though, we had a special Nintendo Direct dedicated to the game, and any doubts you may have had about this title should’ve ended by the time the Direct finished. Seriously, this game is special, and it took only a few seconds for my jaw to drop, as the Direct threw one shocker after another to beat it into our heads that we’ve never played a DK game like this before.

Where to begin? Oh, how about that PAULINE REALLY IS IN THE GAME!??!?! There were rumors that she was in it, but she’s basically DK’s assistant through the “underground world” that they’re both in. Her singing talent is on full display throughout the trailer, including guiding you through levels to find certain things, and even being a co-op compatible player! Pretty cool, right?

The game has Donkey Kong and Pauline trying to reach the planet’s core so they can get themselves back to the surface. That won’t be easy, though, as they’ll have to go through many layers of the planet, searching for golden bananas and defeating the various members of the Void Company, who want to make a dastardly wish for themselves!

While Donkey Kong has plenty of power on his own and can destroy much of the levels he’s on, he’ll get some new power-ups in Donkey Kong Bananza by being able to transform! With these new powers, he’ll be able to fly, gain even MORE strength, and possibly a few more surprises along the way. Plus, you can power him up RPG-style to enhance his skills or get all-new abilities!

Oh, and did I mention that there’s a DK & Pauline Amiibo coming out on July 17th alongside the game’s release? Because there is! So, yeah, just watch the Direct below and marvel at everything this game offers. This one could be a defining title for the Nintendo Switch 2.
