emaqi Releases Sabae is Just a Friend, Maybe Manga

By Josh PiedraSeptember 19, 2025

Today, emaqi has announced that they have added Keigo Hayasaka’s Sabae is Just a Friend, Maybe manga series.

The seinin slice-of-life comedy manga is described by emaqi as follows:

The series follows Uji, a laid-back college student, and Sabae, his tomboyish best friend with a tough exterior. When a night of casual drinks turns unexpectedly intimate, Uji is forced to confront his feelings — and his friendship — as college life oscillates between comfort and chaos. This relatable and comedic look at the ups and downs of young adult relationships makes Sabae is Just a Friend, Maybe a must-read for fans of slice-of-life and coming-of-age dramas.

A tug-of-war between friendship and desire. That razor-thin line between harmless mischief and pushing things too far—every scene feels so familiar, you can’t help but smirk. Watch as ordinary classroom moments transform into playful battlegrounds of wit and strategy!

In 2024, the manga was adapted into a hit live-action series.
