Elden Ring Nightreign Shares the Word on The Guardian in New Trailer

By Andrew AgressMay 15, 2025
The Guardian Elden Ring Nightreign

Have you heard the word? The bird person in Elden Ring Nightreign is the word. Formally known as The Guardian, this winged warrior is the latest playable character to receive a trailer from FromSoftware and Bandai Namco Entertainment. A dedicated tank, The Guardian can use his shield to withstand ferocious attacks.

While this Nightfarer has high defensive capabilities in general, he can plant his feet and brace with his shield for a more powerful guard. This is especially useful against bosses. If you’ve played any FromSoftware game you’ll know that boss battles are a big part of gameplay. And Elden Ring Nightreign is no exception. Players take on two bosses in each session before facing a brutal third boss.

As such, The Guardian feels like a safe bet to have in most matches. He can use his whirlwind skill to knock smaller enemies down. This creates an opening for allies to attack, which is always nice.

But his Wings of Salvation skill may prove one of the best in the game. Not only does this divebomb attack repel groups of enemies, but it can also revive allies quickly and efficiently. In a game without respawns, a swift revival ability is literally a lifesaver.

The Guardian is one of the four original Nightfarers that FromSoftware showed off when announcing the game. The full roster will include eight Nightfarers upon release:

  • Duchess (melee)
  • Recluse (ranged)
  • Guardian (melee)
  • Wylder  (melee)
  • Iron Eye (ranged)
  • Raider (melee)
  • Executor (melee)
  • Revenant (unknown)

FromSoftware recently shared a trailer showing off all eight Nightfarers in Elden Ring Nightreign. However, the studio has been fairly tight lipped about the last two. Based on the schedule of sharing a new character trailer each week or so leading up to release, we should know more about the Executor and Revenant in the next week or so. Of course, Elden Ring Nightreign comes out at the end of this month. So one way or another, we’ll know about all eight characters soon.

Elden Ring Nightreign launches on May 30 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
