Ever since I took ownership of the Asus ROG Ally X, I’ve attempted to run just about any game that I can on it, since it’s my only other way to play games when I’m not near my PC or gaming consoles. Thankfully, the mighty handheld hasn’t failed me yet, and with the release of Elden Ring Nightreign, I’m happy to report that with a few tweaks, you can get respectable performance out of it.
With this in mind, I do want to point out a few things. For starters, I have removed Windows 11 and installed the Steam OS-clone, Bazzite, as it gives better performance. Too much Windows bloating that Microsoft needs to address, but this isn’t the time or place for that conversation. Secondly, I am using the 25W setting / Turbo TDP. Finally, I am playing at 1600×900 (900p), but the settings also work at 1920×1080 (1080p). I just wanted more performance, so I lowered the frame rate. Sadly, since I am using Bazzite, I was not able to utilize FSR, since I haven’t been able to get it working.
Here are the settings I used to play Elden Ring Nightreign on the Asus ROG Ally X. With these, I average between the high 40s to low 50s.
