Does The First Berserker: Khazan Have An Easy Mode

Soulslike games are known for being punishing and tough as nails, and well, that’s true. However, over the last few years, more and more Soulslikes have been adding an easy mode to make the game easier for those who aren’t veterans of the genre. And with the release of The First Berserker: Khazan, it also features an Easy Mode.

However, just because there’s an easy mode doesn’t mean it doesn’t have it’s the way to go.

How to Access The Easy Mode in The First Berserker: Khazan

In The First Berserker: Khazan, players will be able to access a selection screen that will give them access to an Easy and Normal mode once they defeat the final boss of the first stage.

However, you can force that selection screen by dying several times even before you get to the first boss. To test this, I died four times and once I respawned, the game gave me access to the selection screen where I could choose either the Easy Mode or Normal Mode.

It’s the developer extending a helping hand before and it’s a smart tactic. Especially for those who may get put off by a game that’s as punishing as this one.

The First Berserker Khazan - Easy and Normal Mode Screen

Of course, those who aren’t veterans of Soulslike games may want to choose the Easy Mode, however, there’s a catch. If you select Easy Mode, you will not only get access to achievements or trophies, but you can also no longer switch the game back to Normal Mode. If you want to play in Easy Mode but what those achievements or trophies, you’ll have to start a new game in Normal Mode.

The First Berserker Khazan - Easy Mode Consequences

This is similar to what A44 did with Flintlink: The Seige of Dawn, and even before that, Cuphead. What good is there to provide the option for people to play the game at a reduced difficulty if you’re going to punish them for doing so? It’s either add the option or don’t do it at all.

You can check out our review of The First Berserker: Khazan to see what we thought about the game.

The First Berserker: Khazan releases on March 27, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, or March 24th, 2025 if you purchase the deluxe edition which includes three days of early access.
