Disney Has Delayed The Upcoming Avengers Films

Apparently...making movies like this takes time.

Avengers Doomsday, Avengers Secret Wars

It’s almost never a “good day” when something you want to see/play/enjoy gets pushed back. Delays are inevitable, but that doesn’t mean they don’t sting when they happen. Currently, Disney is trying its hardest to get its Marvel Cinematic Universe “back on track” after a series of setbacks, bombs, and lackluster performances at the box office. This year and next were supposed to be when things “turned around,” especially with the first of two Avengers films dropping next May. Except that’s now changed. As Deadline notes, both Doomsday and Secret Wars have been pushed back a bit.

The first movie, Avengers: Doomsday, was supposed to come out May 1, 2026, but now it’s been delayed to December 18, 2026. As for Avengers: Secret Wars, it is going from May 7, 2027, to December 17, 2027.

So, why the delay? Simply put, the movies are big, REALLY big. We already knew the cast for both movies would be insane, but apparently, the big delay is so that the movies can get the time they need to be as perfect as possible. If you recall some of the more recent struggles with the MCU, the “rush” to get them to theaters has been a problem. It’s resulted in not only shoddy storytelling and dramatic shifts behind the scenes, but also terrible CGI/VFX, as those who do them have been pushed to the brink and beyond just to “get the film out on time,” instead of ensuring that the effects are of quality.

Let’s hope these two movies truly do meet expectations, or Disney and Marvel will truly pay the price.
