Discotek Announces New Licenses at Otakon

During its industry panel at Otakon 2025, Discotek announced several new anime and cartoon licenses.

Crayon Shin-chan

The first 78 episodes of Crayon Shin-chan will be coming on a 2-disc Blu-ray set. The release date of the Blu-ray set was not revealed during the panel. This release will mirror the 2008-2011 DVD release from Funimation. Special features will include closed captions and widescreen formats for the episodes.

Higurashi Kai & Higurashi Rei

In two separate releases, Discotek will release the When They Cry Kai and Rei series (known as Higurashi no Naku koro ni in Japan). Kai is the sequel series that takes place after the first season that ties the entire story together while Rei is a 6-episode short series that takes place after the events of Kai, but is on the lighter side of things. No release date has been announced.

Urotsukidoji: Sequels of the Overfiend

A multi-disc Blu-ray collection that includes the following works:

  • Urotsukidōji II: Legend of the Demon Womb
  • Urotsukidōji III: Return of the Overfiend
  • Urotsukidōji IV: Inferno Road
  • Chōjin Densetsu Urotsukidōji: Kyōō-hen Gekijō V2 Kyōya Majū-den (Lord of Chaos Theater V2: The Legend of Crazed Demon Beasts)
  • Chōjin Densetsu Urotsukidōji: Kanketsu-hen (Urotsukidoji 5: The Final Chapter)

No release date was given

Sgt. Frog Anime Films

Next up was the announcement that Discotek will release the first five Sgt. Frog anime films. All films will be in HD with Japanese audio and English subtitles. Stereo and 5.1 audio options will be available. No release date was given. The films in this collection are as follows:

  • Chō Gekijōban Keroro Gunsō
  • Chō Gekijōban Keroro Gunsō 2: Shinkai no Princess de Arimasu!
  • Chō Gekijōban Keroro Gunsō 3: Keroro Tai Keroro – Tenkū Daikessen de Arimasu!
  • Chō Gekijōban Keroro Gunsō Gekishin Dragon Warriors de Arimasu!
  • Chō Gekijō-ban Keroro Gunsō Tanjō! Kyūkyoku Keroro Kiseki no Jikūjima de Arimasu!!

Zone of the Enders

Discotek announced that they will be releasing the Zone of the Enders: Idolo OVA and the Zone of the Enders: Dolores,i television anime. The release will have both the Japanese audio and the English dub. More details will be revealed in the future.

Zegapain

Discotek has three new releases coming with the Zegapain series. They plan on releasing the television anime, the Zegapain ADP compilation film, and the Zegapain STA anime film. All will have Japanese audio and English dub tracks available.

Digimon: The Movies

A new Digimon movie collection is coming from Discotek as they plan to release the fourth, fifth, and sixth anime films:

  • Digimon 02: Revenge of Diaboromon
  • Digimon Tamers: The Adventurers’ Battle
  • Digimon Tamers Movie 6: The Runaway Digimon Express

Bonus features will include original promotional videos and TV commercials.

Monster

Naoki Urasawa’s TV anime adaptation of their Monster manga series is coming via Discotek! The release will contain all 74 episodes in HD format with Japanese audio and English subtitles. The English dub will also be included. The release is scheduled for some point in 2026.

Shin Ace o Nerae!

Discotek announced that they will release Shin Ace o Nerae! This will be the 1978 remake, and not the original 1973 anime version. The two-disc set will feature Japanese audio with English subtitles.

Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro

The Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro release will be a special steelbook edition! This version will come with a new English dub, which stars Tony Oliver, Richard Epcar, Michelle Ruff, and Doug Erholtz. This release will only be available exclusively on the Crunchyroll store.

Ruby Spears’ Mega Man

Discotek is re-releasing the Ruby Spears Mega Man cartoon. The series was previously re-released; however, there was a speed issue with the playback of the first episode. That error has been fixed in this version. Other than that, you will get the full 27-episode series to relive all of Cut Man’s terrible puns, Pharoah Man punching Mega Man in the face after stealing his power, and the infamous Mega X episode, and more!

Golden Boy

The hilarious OVA comedy series, Golden Boy, is receiving a Blu-ray release. This release features brand-new commentary from Doug Smith, who is the English V.A. for Kintaro.

Project ARMS

Lastly, Discotek announced the release of Project ARMS on Blu-ray. The set will contain all 52 episodes from the TV anime and will contain both the Japanese dub and English dub. The English dub will be the one from VIZ Media’s previous release. More extras will be revealed at a later date.
